Reflection Models for Leaders

At Flatland, our mission is: “Drawing a better world together.” Our Visual Strategist, Janita van Ginneken, has a deep passion for making this a reality, particularly in leadership development. Over the years, she has developed into an undisputed expert in organizational development and leadership.

Janita compiled her knowledge into a valuable visualization that went viral on LinkedIn: “I wanted to create an overview of my collected reflection models and interventions for (team) leaders. Over the years, I have gathered many valuable tools and techniques from colleagues, partners, clients, and training programs such as Tachles and Insight. I intuitively organized them based on the upper and undercurrent. The overview may not be complete or perfect, but it’s certainly good enough to share!”

Why visualization?

Did you know that visual information is processed by the brain 60,000 times faster than text? Additionally, it is easier to remember and share. Images help us see the bigger picture and often reveal blind spots—areas we unconsciously avoid but that offer opportunities for growth.

Janita: “For me, drawing helps externalize experiences, allowing me to look at them from a distance. It enables me to see connections and patterns that are sometimes chaotic in my mind. Give it a try, even if it’s just a simple mind map with words and arrows. I find that when I want to change, it helps to visualize it. Images are immensely helpful in this process. The key is to transform the abstraction of the model into concrete behavior so that I can actually take steps forward.”
