At Flatland it is our daily job to design and facilitate sessions for our clients to clarify and visualize their visions, missions, strategies and core processes. In 1957 Walt Disney did a wonderful job himself to visualize the way his company would conquer the hearts and wallets of many consumers, via the creation of unique story content. This is one of the oldest known corporate strategy maps, hence a bit of a treasure.

In 2019, Walt Disney’s visionary approach has led to a world-leading creator and provider of entertainment & information. To honor the man and his marvelous strategy map that gave a lot of smiles to people of different ages around the world, our colleagues Dan Biesma and visual designer Govert van der Heijden decided to create this updated Walt Disney strategy map.
Besides honoring mr. Disney, it was also a fun exercise and a small ‘thank you’ for letting Disney+ premiering in Flatland, euh the Netherlands. We think an updated 2019 strategy map for the Walt Disney Company is the least we could do! 😉

The core in 2019 is still studio entertainment, that is circulated outside, and more and more inside Disney’s ecosystem. For the updated strategy map we added color and information about their acquisitions, the Disney Media Networks, their revenue development and the global reach the company has created since the 1950’s.
Please do share your thoughts regarding the map with Govert and Dan. Also feel free to contact us if you want to learn more about how Flatland usually co-creates strategy, vision or process maps with their clients.
Notification: This strategy map is a playful initiative of two Flatland colleagues. The copyright to all represented brands and trademarks belongs to the Walt Disney Company.
